Animal Art

If there is one thing we love just as much as design, it’s animals! By mixing both together we can create a loveable masterpiece. We have collaborated with one of the most talented animal artists, Angela Rossi, who shares our love of animals!

Cousin Parker

Angela Rossi was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She is a self-taught; outsider artist that works with recycled, abused, broken and forgotten items creating altered antique plates, raw assemblage sculptures and mixed media portraits.

George Aries Rug

We asked her a few questions…

What inspires you?

I tend to view people as animals and can usually remember a person by the animal that they remind me of rather than their name or other quality.  It came naturally for me to want to create anthropomorphic portraits.  I love the contrast they bring to the classical portrait.  I think it adds a bit of humor and casual appeal to a formal and longstanding tradition.

What is your favorite animal?

When I was 7 years old I developed a theory that there were two kinds of people in this world:  people that loved horses and people that loved monkeys.  I am a monkey lover.

Make that three kinds, I’m a penguin lover!

What influences you?

The juxtaposition of highbrow classicism with a sense of humour is the greatest influence in my work. One of my favourite things about working with animals is that they naturally don’t smile which leaves their vast expressions open to a variety of interpretations.

Hope you liked today's blog, what's your favourite animal art?

Inspiration In The Clouds

It isn’t difficult to see why clouds have been an inspiration to artists for centuries. From the great landscapists to Magritte and contemporary artists such as Berndnaut Smilde, all have taken the motif as a basis for their art. Whilst the headlines in the UK are full of the havoc that the recent weather has brought, it is worth remembering how beautiful and powerful these changeable, fleeting entities can be.

We at mineheart are not immune to the dreamy qualities of clouds. We love them so much that we made a wallpaper called “In the Clouds”.

Romance and reminiscence

Love is in the air here at mineheart, or more specifically Romance with a capital R.  Whilst we are surrounded by red roses, chocolates and all the gaudy trappings of the commercial side of Valentines Day, we thought it would be refreshing to show a monochrome selection of romantic images. Romance can be found in the tiniest details or sweeping landscapes, in intimate surroundings or grand gestures.  It can be a longing or an all-consuming passion.

It can remind us of the past or be a dream to be fulfilled in the future.

  1. What does romance mean to you?

    1. Sending lots of love to everyone from the home of lovabledesign.

Grey and Gold

Looking out of the window at the moment in the UK, it is hard to feel inspired with all these heavy clouds and rain, but here at mineheart we actually love grey.  Especially when it is teamed with gold.  There is something elegant and quite covetable about what a little glint of the shiny stuff can do to an otherwise unremarkable background, whether on ceramics, door architecture or in embroidered details.   We can all imagine a little gap in the clouds with this selection!

Look out for our Valentine’s blogpost on Friday….

Inspiration behind Air, Rapunzel and Sea, From our Printed Frame collection.

Artist Himitsuhana has taken the time to share her vision from taking the images of our three printed frames Air, Rapunzel and Sea.

Air

The image "Air is not enough" which has been shortened in "Air" , When I finished the commissioned portrait I continued shooting to create something else using the same background and props. I had this big wine glass and I started playing with it and that's how the idea of "Air" was born.I used a lot of clothes to create the costume, in fact it's not a true 18-century dress but it's a mixture of several things: a 70s jacket whose sleeves I pulled up and tied with ribbons, a shirt with ruches and a velvet fabric for the dress. The idea for this concept was to depict the way an artist feels sometimes, he feeds on his own dream and inspiration and this is the way he feels the greatest satisfaction.

Rapunzel
Rapunzel is my interpretation of the famous homonymous fairy-tale. I used hair extension to create the long haid of hair, so that it really looks real. I took inspiration from the Pre-Raphaelites style of painting to create this, they used bright yet soft colors all mixed together so that in some paintings you cannot actually see the borders of the subjects.

Sea
"Sea" whose real title is "Sur les mers dangereuses" is one of my typical surreal images in which I combine real and unreal. The little girl is a sort of abyss monster but she's also holding up a boat so it's like she's the guardian and the enemy at the same time. I love depicting concepts that carry contrasts and oppositions, I feel all of this inside so I always try to let it go into an image.

The cleverly printed surround saves you having to go out and find that perfect frame! these stunning images are printed onto the finest quality canvas and stretched on to 38mm thick wooden frames. Take a look at our full wall art collection at http://www.mineheartstore.com/wall-art.html
